Make BOSCH IP video devices ready for WinCC OA 3 Years, 5 Months ago
Hi, WinCC OA Video users!

When setting up a WinCC OA project using the "Video" feature to display video streams transmitted by BOSCH IP cameras or BOSCH encoders there are some obstacles one may stumble over. This is a "HowTo" for making a BOSCH device ready:
  • The default IP adress of a BOSCH device(camera, encoder or decoder) is always 192.168.0.1
To configure the device you can access it via web(http://192.168.0.1).
There are two main pages on the web interface("Livepage" and "Settings"). Choose "Settings" to configure.
  • It is essential to configure the BOSCH device in a way that it encodes the video stream in the right format which is "H.264".
This format is supported by BOSCH devices that run firmware version 4 or above. Check the firmware version on "Advanced Mode" -> "Service" -> "System Overview". A valid value for "Firmware version" is e.g. "43500400".
If necessary you can download newer firmware from the BOSCH website and upload it to your device in "Advanced Mode" -> "Service" -> "Maintenance".
  • Some device's default stream format is "MPEG-4 SH++" which is not usable in the WinCC OA Video feature. To change it to "H.264" go to "Advanced Mode" -> "Encoder" -> "Encoder Profile" and change "Stream 1" and/or "Stream 2" to "H.264" also change the quality of the stream to the value you prefer. This value(CIF, 4CIF, ...) has to match with the configured stream quality for this device in your WinCC OA Video configuration.
  • To change the IP adress of the device just select the menu entry "Basic Mode" -> "Network".
Feel free to ask for further information.

Kind regards,
Markus

Hi Markus,

The correct version of MPEG ActiveX and DirectX also need to be installed on the PC to support H.264 streams, Bosch recommend installing the versions below in order to successfully display the streams from the IP devices.

    - MPEG ActiveX 3.03
    - MPEG ActiveX 4.40
    - DirectX 9.0c

They can be downloaded here

It is also worth mentioning although new Dinion IP cameras support multiple streams it is not possible to encode MPEG-4 and H.264 at the same time. This is due to limitations in the image processing capabilities of the encoder in the cameras. So for PVSS users, if using more than one stream make sure that they are all set to H.264.

Hi Jonathan,

Nice to see you here!

That's a good point because it really was the case several times that people that engineered with "WinCC OA Video" asked me
why there is no video stream displayed in the video widget. Most of the time the mistake was that there was no DirectX installed on the PC.

We deliver the recommended version of DirectX which is "DirectX 9.0c" within our setup in the subfolder msi\DirectX_RT_Nov2008.

Thanks for the input!

Kind regards,
Markus

Yes that is exactly what happened to us when setting up PVSS video for the first time. I think with Bosch kit generally it is quite important to have the right version of software and firmware installed for their IP devices, this applies to RAID arrays as well.

Good to "see" you too

Hi video users!

When using the video feature make sure that the host where the UI is running contains itself in it's hosts file.
Else the video stream can't be delivered to the video EWO.

For example the UI is running on "machine1" that has an ip adress of "192.168.0.1". The hosts file on "machine1" must contain:
192.168.0.1 machine1

Make sure this entry is not hidden by another entry for example
127.0.0.2 machine1

Kind regards,
Markus
